Movie Musings – Haunters
So, finished HAUNTERS – a movie about a man who can control people en masse with his mind, and the one dude who is immune and thus fated to stop him. It kinda reminded me of Unbreakable, in a strange way. And of Kilgrave from Jessica Jones… except even he didn’t throw a baby at a speeding subway train. Anyways, it was visually stunning and creepy but there really wasn’t much more to it than a showdown between two dudes. With some character development, this could have been stellar… cause if we knew anything about these guys, we might care a bit more who won in the end.
Review – Will It Snow for Christmas?
Will It Snow for Christmas is a romantic drama about two star-crossed lovers who must first climb Mount Everest, then maybe Mount Olympus, fight off a horde of zombies, learn to breathe underwater, travel through time and cure cancer before ever getting together. At least, that’s what it feels like. Saying they had to overcome obstacles is too tame a word. Ah, but clearly they’re meant to be together, these two unfortunate souls, but first we have to get through the drama.
And what a drama! This will probably forever remain in my top 10 – because it’s a great story, has an awesome cast and I find myself wanting to rewatch it all the time.
Overall Rating: 10/10
The premise of this show is important – so gather round, ye children, and listen closely as I tell you a story about a very unlucky set of children.
You Had Me At “I Do” – Review of Empire of Gold
Fifteen minutes in and I was already hooked with baited breath. Hands down the best opening scene of any K-Drama I have seen to date. Seriously, my jaw dropped to the floor… “With this ring I thee wed” has never been creepier. EVER.
The Empire of Gold kept rolling forward at full steam – delivering some chilling scenes and immersing you into the strange and treacherous world of big, shady business. Yes, ladies and gentleman, this world is as far removed from me as South Korea. I shall keep my pittance of a government salary and continue to pay rent in my shabby but comfortable apartment and leave the bribes, back-stabbing, golfing, dinner deals and mergers to the high rollers who can stomach such things. This is not a world of happy endings, or happy middles or even happy beginnings. This world barely catches even a moment of such things. And yet it’s compulsively watchable. Like a massive car pile up on the interstate. Keep me at a safe distance… about ten feet from the television, thank you.
A dark, precautionary tale of greed. Highly recommended.
